What is solar energy?

Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the sun that is harnessed using a range of ever evolving technologies such as photo voltaic cells. The photo voltaic cells are mostly used for trapping sun's energy and convert it into electricity. Solar panels are mostly used in countries like India which has most numbers of clear days in year.

  • Renewable energy source
  • Less electricity bills if installed at homes
  • Low maintenance cost
  • Clean energy
  • Less emission of greenhouse gases
  • Weather dependent
  • Uses some amount of space (Depends on solar panel capacity)
  • Sometimes associated with pollution
What is wind energy?

Wind energy is the energy is the energy generated by wind. Windmill is used to convert wind energy to electricity. Air flow causes the propeller of windmill to move and in turn we get generated electricity. Windmills are very popular in USA.

  • Clean energy
  • Less emission of greenhouse gases
  • Noise
  • Less reliable
  • Dependent of wind
  • Needs a start with generator
Advantages of solar energy over wind energy
  • Cost of installing a windmill is far more that installing a solar panel for home.
  • Solar panels are very effective. They can provide 100% efficiency if sun shines bright on sunny days but windmills need 5 miles an hour wind for propellers to move and 10-20 miles an hour for ideal power generation.
  • Solar panels can easily payback the cost of installing it in some 1 year for ideal home. Whereas the cost of installing solar panel is very high and it take years for payback.
  • Solar panels can be positioned anywhere as they occupy very less space while windmills need a big farm to setup.
  • Noise of windmill is very high and it is not easy to live besides your windmill.
Overall solar panels are far more efficient and cost effective than wind mills. Modern technology have made solar panels ideal for powering home.
